Public transport in the Ahr valley
The most important bus & train services at a glance
In the Ahr Valley and beyond, you can travel comfortably by public transport and leave your car at home or at your accommodation. With the completion of the Ahr Valley Railway, you can now comfortably reach the towns of the lower and middle Ahr from Bad Bodendorf to Ahrbrück by train again.
Various bus lines connect the municipalities of Altenahr, Adenau and Blankenheim and also link the county, the Nürburgring and Bad Münstereifel with the Ahr Valley. We have summarised the most important connections for you here.
By the way: If you stay overnight in the Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler area, you will receive the AhrtalCard from the first night, which allows you to use all buses and trains in the entire Rhine-Moselle transport network (VRM) free of charge. This allows you to travel to Maria Laach, Andernach, Koblenz, the Rhine or the volcanic Eifel region around Mayen, for example.
If you don't have an AhrtalCard, you can also use all regional buses and trains with the Deutschlandticket.
The Ahr Valley Railway has been fully operational again since the end of 2025 and is fully electrified.
- Regional railway RB30 Ahrbrück - Remagen - Bonn:
The RB30 trains run hourly from Ahrbrück via Remagen to Bonn.
- Regional railway RB32 (Boppard - Koblenz -) Remagen - Altenahr:
The RB32 trains run hourly from Altenahr to Remagen and every 2 hours via Koblenz to Boppard.

In the summer season from April to November, there are special leisure bus routes that take excursionists to the most beautiful cycling and hiking routes along the Middle Ahr, in the Upper Ahr Valley and in the neighbouring Northern Eifel. Whether it's a scenic hike through the forests and meadows of the Eifel or a relaxed cycle tour along the Ahr - with the leisure bus routes, you can easily reach many starting points for your tours. The cycle and hiking buses enable flexible tour planning in the Ahr Valley and beyond. Simply get on, get off and off you go into nature.
Some of the buses are already emission-free and electrically powered. Many vehicles also have free WiFi and USB sockets at all seats, which can be used for digital tour planning en route.

The cycle bus trailers offer space for 20 to 22 bicycles, and e-bikes can also be taken along. We recommend booking at www.radbusse.de. A bike ticket is required for each bike in addition to the normal ticket. The buses are of course also available to all passengers without a bicycle.
Cycle bus route 899 "Upper Ahr Valley" from Ahrbrück to Blankenheim
Between Ahrbrück, Schuld, Müsch and Blankenheim, the "Oberes Ahrtal" cycle bus line 899 runs along the Ahr cycle path from April to October. It provides easy access to cycle routes such as the Erft Cycle Route from Schuld, the Eifel Volcano Cycle Route from Dümpelfeld and the Kalkeifel Cycle Route from Ahrdorf. In Ahrbrück there is a connection to the Ahrtalbahn railway.
Of course, the line can also be used by hikers, e.g. to explore the AhrSteig.

RadBus line 844 "Ahr-Voreifel" between Rheinbach and Ahrbrück
The "Ahr-Voreifel" cycle bus (line 844) runs between Ahrbück, Altenahr and Rheinbach from April to October and connects not only Rhineland-Palatinate with North Rhine-Westphalia, but also the Ahr Valley with the Rhineland cycling region. The bus stops in Kalenborn and Hilberath, among other places, and is therefore also attractive for hikers who want to go on tours across the Ahr heights, for example. There are rail connections in Rheinbach in the direction of Bonn and Euskirchen/Bad Münstereifel. In Ahrbrück in the direction of Ahrweiler/Remagen/Bonn and Koblenz. A connection to Blankenheim is possible with the RadBus line 899.

Hiking bus route 861 from Ahrbrück to Blankenheim
The hiking bus line 861 offers a daily connection along the Ahr between Ahrbrück, Dümpelfeld, Schuld and Blankenheim every 120 minutes - not only in the season, but all year round. There are numerous hiking trails and tourist highlights along the route, which can be reached in combination with the public transport journey.

Leisure bus line 862 between Ahrbrück and Bad Münstereifel
From April to October, there is a "leisure bus" (line 862) between Mittelahr and Bad Münstereifel. It runs from Ahrbrück via Altenahr through the Sahrbach valley to Houverath, past the Effelsberg radio telescope to Mahlberg with destination Bad Münstereifel and runs five to six times a day in both directions.
