Tour
Circular hiking trail No. 6 (Schuld - Winnerath - Insul - Schuld)
We start our hike "Schuld-Winnerath-Insul-Schuld" in the town center of Schuld at the bus stop at the Ahr bridge. The Panorama route is consistently marked with the local trail logo Circular route No. 6.
Here starts the tour to the Schuld little turrets. Through forest and wide meadows with fascinating views as far as the Siebengebirge it goes via Winnerath to Insul. At the mill pond there a short detour to the "Hahnensteiner Mill" from the year 1556 is recommended. Past the mill weir, the path leads over the Ahr bridge to the AhrSteig. A detour to the mining information point "Goldloch": here you can discover information about copper mining and geology is worthwhile.
Another highlight of the tour awaits the hiker a bit further on: the natural monument "Prümer Tor", an impressive rock crevice formed over millions of years by the power of water. It invites to a break and the possibility of refreshment by a foot bath in the Ahr. Following the AhrSteig further, you return to the starting point Schuld.
Highlights on the way:
- Viewpoints Schuld little turrets
- Panorama view wildlife park Winnerath
- Panorama view Winnerath Height
- Hahnensteiner Mill
- Information point Goldloch
- Natural monument Prümer Tor

The Panorama route Schuld is consistently marked with the trail logo Circular route No. 6 and leads through the towns of Schuld-Winnerath-Insul-Schuld.
We start our hike "Schuld-Winnerath-Insul-Schuld" in the town center in front of the bridge at the sign "Hiking paradise Schuld"
First, we follow the sidewalk over the bridge towards the church, there we cross the street and follow it a few meters uphill. Behind a rest area with a wooden cross, we turn right onto a meadow path until we reach a small hiking parking lot. To the right of the parking lot, a hiking trail leads us up to „To the little turrets“. Along the way, we can enjoy beautiful views over Schuld at two viewpoints. From the 2nd viewpoint, we follow the path further up the hill until we meet a forest trail. We hike this to the right, always past the forest edge. After about 200 m, we reach a fork in the path, which we now follow to the left. We continue past a larger meadow area, with a wonderful view of the surrounding Eifel landscape up to the "Hohe Acht".
After crossing a short forest section, we first hike left then again right along the forest edge. We stay on this path for a while. After a left bend, we leave the path and go straight ahead past a hedge boundary. At the end of the hedges, we keep right and proceed in a left curve towards the forest edge, which we follow for a short distance. We take the next path to the left downhill towards Winnerath, pass a bush and a little shrine, and continue straight on an asphalt farm road to Winnerath. Before the entrance to the town, we meet the K 16, which we follow about 50 m to the right and then turn left into the asphalted village street uphill into the town. At the top, we meet a village fountain and first go left through Mittelstraße and then continue along Kapellenstraße out of town. The village road changes into an asphalt farm road. After passing a small valley, we come to an open high area with meadows and fields. From here, in good weather, there is a fantastic view over the landscape far into the Siebengebirge. The path changes in between to a field path that ends at a path crossing at the edge of the forest. We take the left forest path, which now leads slightly downhill and stay on it until we reach another path crossing with a little shrine. The forest gives us a beautiful view of the valley and the town of Insul, which we will pass through later. We continue half-left on the middle path to the next left curve. We leave the path and turn right onto a narrow trail. This leads us first through the forest and later over a rocky ridge, further downhill. The last part of the trail leads down several rock steps. Surefootedness is required here, and caution is advised when wet. At the end of the trail, we reach a meadow path, which we now follow to the right. We soon reach an asphalted village street, which we follow 150 m to the left. Here we cross the main road and walk on the opposite side past houses to the mill pond.
On the right side, we see the „Hahnensteiner Mill“ from the year 1556. A short detour is recommended.
Our route continues along the mill pond and past the mill weir to the Ahr bridge, which we cross. At the end, we turn left into Überdorfstraße and follow it until we meet the bike path, which we follow left for about 200 m, then turn left again onto the Ahrsteig.
Along the way, you pass the so-called "Goldloch" with three former copper mines. A visit is worthwhile.
The AhrSteig runs parallel to our route until shortly before Schuld and then turns right uphill. But we follow the path straight into the town, pass through the „Domhof“ and about 50 m behind the Ahr bridge turn left onto a steep path. At the top, we turn left along the street and stand between the restaurant "Arya Pizzeria" and Hotel Restaurant „Schäfer“. Now we just need to follow the main street to the right until we arrive at the starting point of our hike.
