Day tour on the Ahr bike path & the Vulkan-Rad-Route Eifel (Adenau - Dümpelfeld - Insul - Schuld - Insul - Dümpelfeld - Adenau)
This tour on the Vulkan-Rad-Route Eifel and the Ahr bike path offers ideal conditions for a relaxed family outing. On the tour, you experience the Hocheifel and the Ahr valley. It starts from the historic market square in Adenau or conveniently a little outside from the industrial area "Am alten Wehr" on the flat bike path initially toward Leimbach. You cycle leisurely along the edge of the forest through the towns Niederadenau and Dümpelfeld, past pastures with peacefully grazing horses. From time to time, a lively flock of sheep is also a guest along the route. In Dümpelfeld, the Vulkan-Rad-Route Eifel meets the Ahr bike path. After crossing the Ahr bridge, continue to the left towards Insul. How about a detour to the Hahnensteiner Mill? Here you learn how water turns into electricity. It continues past colorful meadows and bright fields to Insul. Fancy a little refreshment? Then take a short detour to the Prümer Gate natural monument and dip your feet in the Ahr. Or would you prefer a break directly on the Ahr bike path? Then the stop at the Goldloch is just right, and besides, there is a lot to learn about mining and the "gold of the Eifel." Ever watched a bee colony at close range and marveled at the size of the queen bee? A small showcase with a vivid description of the processes in the life of a busy bee colony offers young explorers fascinating insights into the world of these amazing insects.
The next highlight is the old railway tunnel through which the Ahr bike path continues towards Schuld. In Schuld we turn around and ride the route back to Adenau in the opposite direction.
Enjoyment tips along the route can be found here: Insul, Dümpelfeld, Adenau, Schuld
Starting from the historic market square in Adenau, we first follow the signs via Kollengasse towards Leimbach on the Vulkan-Rad-Route Eifel. We leave Adenau through the industrial area and turn left at the end of the street (Am Wendehammer) "Am alten Wehr", then after about 300 m make a sharp right turn again. Those who want to avoid the town center and the first ascent can also easily join the route here. We follow the route parallel to the B257 for about 1 km to Leimbach and pass through Gartenstraße. Attention: At the Onroad Café, the main road must be crossed here to reach Sengenbachstraße. Following the signs, we turn right at the end of Leimbach, briefly downhill on the paved bike path, cross the Adenauer Bach and shortly after the bridge turn left. After another approximately 2 km on the fairly straight and flat bike path, we reach Niederadenau. Here we turn left onto Brückenstraße, and after a short climb, it goes briefly downhill again. The route continues effortlessly towards Dümpelfeld. At the end of Bahnhofstraße, we have to turn right onto L73 and after about 100 m turn sharply left again onto Ahrstraße. After about 200 m, the route leads to the left, we cross the Ahr bridge and turn left behind it onto the Ahr bike path towards Blankenheim. We now reach Insul on this route after about 2 km. Shortly behind the sports ground, we turn right onto Brückenstraße/Am Schweisberg, which changes into K25. After another 100 m turn left and about 500 m further towards Schuld through the former railway tunnel. We follow the route until Römerstraße at the entrance to Schuld. In Domhof, we dismount before the pedestrian bridge and cross it. Immediately behind it, we continue past the playground on Domhofstraße and turn right onto "Auf dem Stausten" and follow it turning left until it becomes Schulstraße. We follow the route to the main road and turn 2 times left below the church and ride back over Domhofstraße towards Insul. At the entrance to Insul, we turn right into Überdorfstraße and follow it to Brückenstraße. Here is the newly designed playground of Insul. From here, a short stretch over Brückenstraße leads towards Sierscheid and the second street on the right again to the Ahr bike path, and as on the outward journey, in Dümpelfeld switch to the Vulkan-Rad-Route Eifel and ride back to Adenau.
The Explorer route is continuously marked from Adenau to Dümpelfeld with the logo of the Vulkan-Rad-Route Eifel and from Dümpelfeld to Schuld with the logo of the Ahr bike path.
Those arriving with the RadWanderBus Oberes Ahrtal Line 899 can start the route in Dümpelfeld, Insul, or Schuld accordingly after adjusting the order in the route guidance.
