Short route 3 (20.7 km) | Fürstin-Margaretha-Weg (Aremberg-Wershofen-Eichenbach-Antweiler-Aremberg)

The | Fürstin-Margaretha-Weg takes you with beautiful views through almost untouched valleys and heights of the Eifel. From Wershofen you have a fantastic view of the distinctive Aremberg. In Aremberg today rises the tower of the once so imposing fortification, built around 1854 from the surrounding rubble and wall remains.
The | Fürstin-Margaretha short route depicted here is at about 20.7 km a slightly shortened variant of the 28.5 km main route. In Wershofen, the 3 km long short route is used here as an idyllic shortcut over winding forest paths to Eichenbach. At the 14-Nothelfer chapel before Eichenbach, we meet again the Fürstin-Margaretha-Weg, which we initially follow into the dreamy village of Eichenbach and then continue through the picturesque beech alley back to the starting point at Antweiler.

We start on Burgstraße in Aremberg, which continues westward into Kapellenstraße and offers a wonderful view of Nürburg and the Nürburgring. The path then leads past the Schutzengel chapel. After World War II, bread was blessed once a year in this chapel by the surrounding villages. At the state border of North Rhine-Westphalia, you hike right up over district road K7 into the state forest. At the Gierscheid forester's lodge the path passes left into the valley along Gierscheidsseifen to Dreisbach. At this junction there is a seating area inviting you to a picnic. The path then leads right along Dreisbach, past a beautiful pond. Afterwards there is a junction where you go half-left uphill towards Wershofen. Below the sports field the path leads out of the forest up to country road L74. Turn right to continue to Wershofen. At the beginning of Wershofen, turn right from the main street into Südstraße up to the junction with Dreißbachstraße. Here we initially leave the Fürstin-Margaretha-Weg and turn right into Dreißbachstraße onto the short route towards Eichenbach. The short route Wershofen-Eichenbach of the Fürstin-Margaretha-Weg is specially marked. We follow this signage and reach after about 3 km the 14-Nothelfer chapel in front of Eichenbach. At the 14-Nothelfer chapel we meet again the main Fürstin-Margaretha-Weg, which we follow into the idyllic village of Eichenbach. There is no mobile phone connection in the village, regardless of network. Anyone seeking peace and quiet is right here. Past a guesthouse the path turns left into Meisenweg towards Antweiler. Halfway along the path you can see Reifferscheid and Winnerath on the left hand side. Then the path continues downhill through the beech alley back to Antweiler past the Fürstin-Margaretha school. Initially following Eichenbacher Weg, at the fork in the road we turn right into Ahlenseifen towards Aremberg.

After a small loop, it goes almost straight uphill for 1.6 km to Aremberg.

>> If you want to visit the Arenberg castle and palace ruins, in the center of Aremberg, first turn right from Schulstraße and follow Burgstraße up to the height of Aremberg.
