Ahr Cycle Route
Discover the Ahr Valley on two wheels
For leisure cyclists, it was a paradise – the Ahr Cycle Route. It winds its way for just under 80 kilometres right through the varied landscape of the Ahr Valley, almost always following the river. At present, the Ahr Cycle Route is not yet fully open to cyclists due to flood damage, or sections are being diverted. On the stretch from Remagen to Ahrbrück, the Ahr Valley Railway can be used as a temporary alternative. Reconstruction of the damaged sections is underway, but it will take some time before the new Ahr Cycle Route is fully restored.

Milestone achieved in the reconstruction:
Since 19 June 2026, the Ahr Cycle Route has once again been fully open to cyclists from Walporzheim to Mayschoß.
Current status of the sections of the Ahr Cycle Route
Section from Blankenheim to Ahrbrück:
The Ahr Cycle Route is once again open to cyclists from Blankenheim to Fuchshofen. In Antweiler, it continues through the village as a temporary alternative until a damaged section has been repaired.
Between Fuchshofen and Schuld, cyclists are being diverted onto the main road. Along the L73, planning for the construction of a cycle path running separate from the road – which had already begun before the floods – is continuing. There is currently a large construction site in the centre of Schuld, where cyclists must dismount.
On the section from Schuld to Ahrbrück, the cycle path is once again fully passable.
Diversion in Insul from 11 July 2025: Due to ongoing construction work in the area of the sports ground in Insul, the previous section of the Ahr Cycle Path (shown on the attached map above the sports ground) has now been closed. With immediate effect, the new route through the village of Insul (Überdorfstr./Brückenstr./Zum Sportplatz), which is already signposted, is therefore in use.
Ahrbrück to Altenahr section:
Between Ahrbrück and Pützfeld, there is a closure in the ‘Im Mühlenauel’ area, which is expected to last until December 2026. As no alternative route has been designated, we recommend using the Ahrtalbahn trains to cover this section.
The section between Pützfeld and Altenahr is generally accessible via alternative routes.
The section from Altenahr to Mayschoß-Laach:
At present, no safe route through the Ahr Valley can be recommended for the stretch between Altenahr and Laach . Due to heavy traffic, cyclists are advised not to use the B267 as an alternative route. It is possible to take bicycles on the Ahr Valley Railway to cover this section of the route.
Reconstruction of the Ahr Cycle Path in this area is being planned, but no completion date can be given at present.
Mayschoß–Laach to Sinzig section:
Between Laach and Sinzig, the route is accessible via diversions. In some sections, the Ahr Cycle Route runs along temporary arrangements and alternative routes through the built-up areas of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler. Please follow the signposting for the alternative Ahr Cycle Route.
