Short Route 1 (9.3 km) | Fürstin-Margaretha-Weg (Antweiler – Eichenbach – Aremberg – Antweiler)

This family-friendly short version of the Fürstin-Margaretha-Weg offers magnificent views of the Upper Ahr Valley and a fascinating route through beautiful mixed forests in the Ahr Mountains. Small churches and wayside shrines line the trail. In Eichenbach, the statue honoring the eloquent tinker Bläke Fritz tells the story of rural life, where hard work was the order of the day, but so were humor and a deep-seated faith.

In the idyllic Hocheifel village of Aremberg, at the foot of the striking volcanic mountain of the same name, the remains of the former fortifications, as well as St. Nicholas Parish Church and the Guardian Angel Chapel, transport visitors back to times gone by.

Highlights along the way:

Plan a nice break and treat yourself to the culinary delights in Aremberg, Eichenbach, and Antweiler (please check the current opening hours before your tour)

We start in Antweiler at the corner of Ahlensiefen and Eichenbacher Weg. Here, we turn right onto Eichenbacher Weg, passing the Fürstin-Margaretha Elementary School and continuing through the beech-lined avenue. After a total of just under 4 km, we reach Eichenbach. From Meisenweg, we briefly turn left onto the K5 and then follow the Fürstin-Margaretha Short Route, turning right toward Aremberg. The short route is also marked with a sign reading “Short Route Aremberg-Eichenbach” in addition to the medlar tree. After just under 3 km, we reach Aremberg. Here, we turn left again onto the | Fürstin-Margaretha-Weg | and then onto Burgstraße.
>> If you’d like to visit the Arenberg castle and palace ruins, follow Burgstraße in Aremberg up to the top of the Aremberg. After about 800 m, you’ll reach the tower of the Arenberg castle ruins. Along the way, information signs vividly explain the history of Princess Margaretha von Arenberg <<

In the center of Aremberg, with a view of the church, we turn right off Burgstraße down into Schulstraße. We follow the logo featuring the medlar tree of the Princess Margaretha Trail. The trail continues almost straight downhill for about 1 km, and after a slight right turn, we reach Antweiler another 1.5 km further on.
