Remagen circular hiking trail A1 - Kripper Field

Just below the Rheinhalle, we turn onto Simrockweg, which leads us past the school center and then past the camping site "Goldene Meile," which has been awarded several times by the ADAC. After the enclosures on both sides, we turn left and then immediately right onto the field path and enjoy the open view. We are on historic ground here. The entire Goldene Meile between Remagen and Kripp was a huge prisoner-of-war camp after the end of World War II. In memory of this camp, the memorial "Black Madonna" was erected on Mittelstraße. We continue on the field path and, on the left side, at the right season, can watch asparagus pickers at work harvesting the delicious Remagen asparagus. After a few hundred meters, we see the paddocks of the Georgienhof Riding Stable on the right. We continue until we reach the street "Auf der Schanze" in Kripp, which we follow towards the Rhine. There we can rest on benches and enjoy the busy activity on the Rhine as well as the view of the town of Linz. On the right, we see the Kripp-Linz Rhine ferry and a monument commemorating the towing shipping on the Rhine. After the break, we go downstream along the bicycle hiking path. We are now on the old towpath. In earlier times, ships were pulled upstream on this path by horses. On the opposite heights of the Rhine, we see Ockenfels Castle. After a bend in the Rhine, we reach a ramp. At this point, we come to the bridge towers of the former Ludendorff Bridge on both sides of the Rhine. On our side is the remarkable "Peace Museum - Remagen Bridge." Downstream, the Apollinaris Church is also visible; beyond it is the Erpeler Ley. Now we turn away from the Rhine and reach our starting point again after about 100 meters via the street "An der Alten Rheinbrücke" branching off at the ramp.
