Remagen circular hiking trail A4 - Around the Scheidskopf
The route: Hiking parking lot Waldschlösschen (end of Birresdorfer Straße) – Calmuth Valley – Dungkopf – Scheidskopf – Calmuth – Hiking parking lot Waldschlösschen
We start at the hiking parking lot "Waldschlößchen", located on Birresdorfer Street (L 79) above the Apollinariskirche. From the hiking map, we go left and then immediately turn right onto the forest path just before the Waldschlößchen. Here we follow the A4 signage. After leaving the pond behind us, we reach a wider path. Now there is the option to take the hiking trail left or right. This description is counterclockwise, so we go right. At the first signposted option, we turn left through mixed forest. We continue following the well-marked path past the fenced area of Schloss Marienfels until we reach Calmuth Valley. Here, we follow the slightly ascending paved road to the left. After about 500 meters, we turn right onto a wide forest track that leads uphill. At an open grassy area, we follow the marking to the left. Ascending gently, we walk on an old industrial railway track. Here, ore carts with basalt blocks were once transported down to the Rhine for loading onto ships. We are now below the Dungkopf, where basalt was formerly mined. It is not far to Birresdorfer Street now. We go left on it and immediately at the next opportunity, turn right back into the forest. Now, we follow the jointly marked path (A1) north-south route Bonn-Bad Neuenahr-Moselkern, to the "Shelter at Scheidskopf". Here we take a short break and enjoy the view of the Ahr Valley with the volcanic cone of the Landskrone. Following the signage along the edge of the forest, we go left. Through the forest and then over an open area, we soon reach the L 79 again, which we follow to the right. Just behind a residential building, we turn left, pass a barrier, and enter the forest. This path leads us back to Calmuth Valley. Shortly before the buildings of the former Internationale Film-Union (where among other things films were dubbed and the newsreel "Blick in die Welt" was produced), we go right uphill again. We follow the signage and soon reach the starting point of the circular hiking trail. Via the connecting path we pass the pond and return to the hiking parking lot.
