Große Burgrunde

The Große Burgrunde runs around the castle ruins. The route leads from the Nürburg castle ruins down Burgstraße until you turn right into Lächenweg. Along Lächenweg you find beautiful views. Hidden on the right in a wooded area is the Burgweiherhütte, which invites you to take a short break. The Burgweiher pond right next to the hut is shaded and enchants with its tranquility. From there, it goes uphill again, past the former ski lift, from which some remains are still visible, up to the Steintränke, which was extensively restored by the community. An information board of the hiking route "On the Trail of the Green Hell" informs about volcanism in the Eifel. At this point of the hike, you have a wonderful view over the Eifel. Back on Burgstraße, with a view of the Nürburgring, it goes slightly uphill back to the starting point at the Nürburg castle ruins. The route is suitable for families with strollers!

We start at Burgplatz and walk along Burgstraße towards the town center. After about 500 m we turn into Lächenweg. We follow Lächenweg until we see the Burgweiherhütte hidden on the right in the forest. After a detour to the Burgweiherhütte, we already see the ascending path that leads us to the Steintränke. Leaving the Steintränke on the left, we reach Burgstraße and turn right there. After about 300 m the street branches off to the starting point at Burgplatz.
The route is consistently signposted with the trail logo "Große Burgrunde".
