Explorer Route Adenau | On the Tracks of the Railway (Fuchshofen-Ahrhütte-Fuchshofen)
On this varied route on the Ahr cycle path, the Upper Ahr Valley presents itself with its romantically wild landscape: Immerse yourself in sunlit wooded sections, skim blooming meadows, and enjoy the view of the lively Ahr as it winds through the valley.
Characteristic features of the former railway route repeatedly appear: information boards about the history of the Ahr Valley Railway, old stone retaining walls with cozy niches inviting to rest, the picturesque former station buildings, and even an old double signal line the way.
Continuing leisurely cycling, colorful signs soon point to the butterfly garden Eifalia in Ahrhütte, the destination of our Explorer Route. After a trip into the fantastic world of butterflies, our path leads back on the same route over Müsch to Fuchshofen.
...and the best part is: since we now cycle downstream on the Ahr, it almost rolls on its own.

A suitable starting point for the route is in Fuchshofen at the Ahr bridge on Ahrweg.
After a short climb on the main road, we turn right onto Bahnhofsweg and follow the paved path for about 4 km straight ahead towards Antweiler. Just before Antweiler, directly behind a small rest area with an old railway signal, there is a steep descent of about 50m. We keep right to briefly go straight after the underpass and then right over the small pedestrian bridge into the center of Antweiler. On the main road, we keep left again and ride through the village, then turn left towards Rodder after about 600 m. We cross the Ahr bridge, stay on Rodderweg, and follow the signage. After 300 m uphill, the route goes first right at the village exit and then briefly downhill. Then the path runs flat again until shortly before Müsch. After a short climb, we reach Müsch and go straight at the first intersection onto Kapellenstraße. Attention, short steep section past the chapel. We follow this until Ahrstraße. We keep left and must cross the federal road after about 50 m. Behind the Ahr bridge, we turn right onto Bahnhofstraße and leave the village. Past Dorseler Mühle, we turn right immediately after crossing L167, cross L65, and turn left directly behind the parking lot onto the paved route towards Ahrdorf. Through Ahrdorf, past the campsite, it first goes left about 100 m uphill and then sharply right towards Ahrhütte. After another 800 m, we cross K46 after a short downhill stretch. After 700 m straight ahead, we turn sharply left and then left again downhill through the underpass. Immediately afterwards, left again and then about 3.3 km mostly flat straight to Ahrhütte. Shortly before Ahrhütte, the L115 must be crossed. The route ends at the butterfly species Eifalia. On the way back, we enjoy the comfortable downhill ride downstream back to the starting point in Fuchshofen.
The Explorer Route is consistently signposted with the Ahr cycle path logo.
Those arriving by the RadWanderBus Upper Ahr Valley line 899 can accordingly start the route in Antweiler or Müsch.
