Circular route Altenahr | Over the Ahr heights into the valley of the red grapes

Over the Ahr heights into the valley of the red grape

Past the vineyards of Altenahr, the path leads into the wildlife enclosure "Weißerath". With some luck, hikers can experience Eifel wildlife here in the midst of nature.

Over the Ahr heights, past the high-altitude village Kalenborn and the "Siebengebirgsblick" viewpoint, the path leads back into the forest. Along the way, a short detour to the "Acropolis" offers a magnificent view of Mayschoß. Downhill, the path leads through the vineyards to Mayschoß. Here there is the option to end the route and take the Ahr Valley Railway back to the starting point. It is worthwhile to continue the path via the Ahr Valley Route through the Langfigtal nature reserve back to Altenahr (total 20 km).

Please note: The Ahr Valley Route in the Langfigtal/Altenahr area is currently interrupted.

Recommendation: In Reimerzhoven, switch from the Ahr Valley Route A1 to the Ahr cycle path (foot and cycle path). The path leads over a former railway viaduct through a tunnel to the starting point of the hike, Altenahr station. This variant shortens the total distance by about 2.5 km.

The path leads over forest trails and through the vineyards to Mayschoß.

From Mayschoß to Altenahr, follow the Ahr Valley Route A1 along the Ahr.
