EifelSchleife Freilinger See (Municipality of Blankenheim)

The village of Reetz is located in a flat and wooded valley basin where the Reetzer Bach originates. The Catholic church in Reetz is beautiful to see and definitely worth a visit. Along the hike through mostly wide meadows and fields, breathtaking panoramic views await you.

A special highlight of the hike is the recreational area at Freilinger See. The reservoir lake is surrounded by extensive forests and meadows. It has existed since 1976 and is fed with fresh spring water. Because of this, the lake has very high water quality. After the hike, you can windsurf, swim, paddle, row, or simply relax on the sunbathing lawn. The adjacent campsite offers the option to extend your stay and spend the night. This hike is especially suitable for families because of the wide range of activities offered at the lake.

There is also a fenced dog beach at Freilinger See for dog owners.

From the parking lot at Freilinger See, cross the K41 heading west and follow a forest path for about 800 meters. Then turn right and immediately left again. Follow the winding path for about 2.5 kilometers until you reach the small village of Reetz. Passing through Hardtstraße, Oberdorf, and Heltenstraße, leave Reetz behind and follow the route over meadows and fields for about two kilometers. Here you briefly meet the K41 again, which you cross, and along the Löcherbusch after about 3.5 kilometers through meadows and small forest sections, you reach Freilinger See. You walk around the lake on the eastern side and return to the starting point of your hike. At Freilinger See, you should end the evening in a relaxed atmosphere.
