Dernau Krausberg | Great Summit Tour

From afar, the Krausberg stands out with the Krausberg Tower enthroned above the wine village of Dernau. The stone lookout tower ütowers over the scenery and offers its visitors a breathtaking panoramic view üover the Ahr valley – including Bad Neuenahr, Ahrweiler, the Landskrone and Marienthal - parts of the county, the Eifel and, in good weather, the cities of Bonn and Küln. On particularly clear days, you can even see the Köln cathedral.   

With a view of the Krausberg, the route first leads through the vineyards around Dernau to Rech. After crossing the Ahr and passing through the small wine village of Rech, the trail leads uphill into the vineyards near Rech. From here you have a great view of the ruins of the Saffenburg and the surrounding villages. The summit tour continues along forest paths in the direction of Krausberg. After a crisp climb, you reach the summit of the Krausberg. When the white flag on the Krausberg tower is flying, the hut of the Eifelverein Dernau is open for visitors.

The stone observation tower towers above the scenery and offers visitors a breathtaking panoramic view of the Ahr Valley - including Bad Neuenahr, Ahrweiler, the Landskrone and Marienthal - parts of the county, the Eifel and, in good weather, the cities of Bonn and Cologne. On particularly clear days, you can even see Cologne Cathedral.

After a steep climb, you reach the summit of the Krausberg. If the white flag is flying on the Krausberg tower, the hut of the Dernau Eifel Association is open for refreshments.

Dernau - Rech - Krausberg - Dernau

The tour starts at the Ahr bridge in Dernau. From here the trail leads along the Bachstraß through the centre of Dernau, past the parish church towards the vineyards and the red wine trail.

Dernau - Red Wine Trail and on towards Rech 

Over the hill from Dernau, we follow the signs to the left for the Rotweinwanderweg in the direction of Rech.

On the way, on the sunny side of the Ahr valley, the Red Wine Trail leads through the vineyards of the Ahr valley.

From the path there are great views of the wine village of Dernau and the Krausberg on the opposite side with the Krausberg tower.

After crossing the K35, we first follow the red wine hiking trail to the next fork. At this fork with the Heiligenhäuschen and a rest area, we leave the Rotweinwanderweg. From here, the route continues straight ahead and above the Red Wine Trail in the direction of Rech.

In the vineyards near Rech, there is an impressive view of the ruins of the Saffenburg castle opposite.

Downhill to Rech

&Uml;über einen asphaltierten Weg in den Weinbergen geht es jetzt bergab in Richtung Rech.

Picnic areas and rest areas along the way invite you to enjoy the magnificent view.

On arrival in Rech, we cross the Ahrbrück bridge. 

Rech - small village with great wines

The small wine village of Rech welcomes us with quaint half-timbered houses and winding alleys. Winegrowers' houses and taverns invite you to linger. The path leads through the wine village past the Catholic parish church of St. Luzia and uphill through narrow winegrowers' alleys towards the vineyards.

From here we follow the AhrSteig signs to the Krausberg.

AhrSteig to Dernau

&Uml;e follow the Hardtstra;e and the Etzelerweg to the AhrSteig signposts.

From the vineyards south of Rech, you have a new perspective on the ruins of the Saffenburg and the surrounding villages.

&Uml;ber Waldwege führt the way further in the direction of Krausberg. After a crisp climb, the goal of the hike, the Krausberg summit, is reached.

Krausberg to Dernau über AhrSteig Zuwegung

From Krausberg, the path to Dernau is signposted via the AhrSteig Zuweg . A steep path leads back to the wine village of Dernau, first via hairpin bends and then partly via steps.

Alternative route to the Krausberg: Access Dernau -  Krausberg, suitable for prams

The alternative route to the Krausberg and back to Dernau is the access road to the Krausberg. The starting and finishing point in Dernau is at the Ahrbrücke. The trail is suitable for prams.

Dernau - Rech - Krausberg - Dernau

The tour starts at the Ahrbrücke bridge in Dernau. From here, the route leads along Bachstraße through the centre of Dernau, past the parish church towards the vineyards and the red wine hiking trail.

Dernau - red wine hiking trail and on towards Rech

Above the houses in Dernau, follow the signs for the red wine hiking trail on the left towards Rech. The path offers great views of the wine village of Dernau and the Krausberg opposite with the Krausberg tower. After crossing the K35, we initially follow the red wine hiking trail to the next fork in the road. At this fork with the Heiligenhäuschen and a rest area, we leave the red wine hiking trail. From here, the route continues straight ahead and above the red wine hiking trail in the direction of Rech. The route now heads downhill towards Rech via a tarmac path in the vineyards. Picnic areas and rest stops along the way invite you to enjoy the marvellous view. Once in Rech, we cross the Ahr bridge.

In the wine village, the route leads past the Catholic parish church of St Lucia and uphill through narrow winegrowing lanes towards the vineyards. From here, follow the signs for the AhrSteig trail to Krausberg.

AhrSteig to Dernau

Follow the signs for the AhrSteig via Hardtstraße and Etzelerweg. The vineyards south of Rech offer a new perspective of the ruins of Saffenburg Castle and the surrounding villages. The trail continues along forest paths towards Krausberg. After a crisp ascent, you reach the destination of the hike, the Krausberg summit.

Krausberg to Dernau via the AhrSteig access route

From Krausberg, the route to Dernau is signposted via the AhrSteig access route. A steep path leads back to the wine village of Dernau, initially via hairpin bends and sometimes over steps
