Grape Path No. 4 - A large loop around Heppingen

The Ahr Valley, located directly at the gates of the Rhine cities Cologne and Bonn, is one of the most beautiful hiking paradises in Germany. In the center of the Ahr Valley lies the town with two faces: Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler.

On one side a spa and health location (Bad Neuenahr), on the other side shaped by Roman times and viticulture (Ahrweiler). Around the town run 15 circular hiking routes, five of which are designed as grape paths. The length of the hiking trails ranges from 3.8 to 12.9 kilometers. The difficulty ranges from easy to challenging, so there is a suitable trail for every fitness level and mood.

Contrasts and surprising moments: a large loop around Heppingen

This hike is multifaceted, leading through vineyards, forest, fields, and finally again through vineyards. Halfway through the route, you have a firm view of the Ahr Valley. The visit to the airfield also provides variety as does the view of the Apollinaris spring facilities. Nature, industrial history, and the romance of the vineyards are the ingredients of this extraordinary hike.

The detailed route description with tips on places to stop, beautiful viewpoints, and elevation profiles can be found in the hiking book: "Around Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler. The 15 Most Beautiful Hiking Trails" from J.P. Bachem Verlag (ISBN 978-3-7616-2844-7).
