Stingchronicity
In the
1970s, Police revolutionised the
British punk-pop scene. Huge hits such as ‘Roxanne’ and ‘Message in
a Bottle’ became ingrained in the minds of teenagers at the time. Since then, Sting
hasn’t let up. Although long past retirement age, he keeps reinventing himself
time and again. Yet amongst all his globally successful and stylistically diverse
projects, evergreens such as ‘Fields of Gold’ and ‘Englishman in New
York’ have remained in the minds of all generations. Just how many hits he has penned
is demonstrated by the band that, with a playful play on words, has named itself after
The Police’s final album, ‘Synchronicity’.
The well-known menino frontman and
‘Horizonte’ presenter Stephan Maria Glöckner effortlessly comes so close to the Brit’s vocal style
that at times you feel as though you’re listening to the master himself. The rest has been
history since 2013: the band turns every club on its head, as the musicians
perform with the greatest of enthusiasm. In doing so, they freely veer off course now and then,
losing themselves in jazzy guitar solos or improvising on
the familiar motifs of the celebrated Englishman.
Michael Wilsberg drums
Copeland’s parts with consummate confidence and even sings the backing vocals. Achim Klein,
bassist with Mista Svenson and Jazzfabrik, who also joins in the backing vocals, is
unfailingly precise on both electric and double bass. Thomas Schmitinger’s lead guitar
navigates all the scales and countless
sounds with virtuosic ease and impressive lightness.
In between, the
band also delves into the acoustic side of some songs, delivering a uniquely
melodious listening experience.
A highlight for everyone and a
must for Police and Sting fans.
