Getting to the Ahr Valley
The best way to get here
The Ahr Valley is situated not far from the cities of Cologne, Bonn and Koblenz, in a side valley of the Middle Rhine. From Sinzig or Remagen, the Ahr Valley runs westwards into the Eifel and ends in Blankenheim, North Rhine-Westphalia. No matter which direction you’re coming from, the Ahr Valley is easy to reach – by car or public transport.
Since the end of 2025, the Ahr Valley Railway has been fully operational again and is now fully electrified.
- Regional service RB30 Ahrbrück – Remagen – Bonn:
Trains on the RB30 service run hourly from Ahrbrück via Remagen to Bonn.
- Regional train RB32 (Boppard – Koblenz –) Remagen – Altenahr:
Trains on the RB32 service run hourly from Altenahr to Remagen and every two hours onwards via Koblenz to Boppard.

Travelling by car
The A61 motorway runs right past the Ahr Valley. It’s the quickest way to reach the district town of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, whether you’re coming from Cologne/Bonn or from the direction of Mainz/Koblenz. The B9 federal road runs parallel to the Rhine, passing Remagen and Sinzig. From here, you can turn off onto the B266 into the Ahr Valley and, via Bad Bodendorf, reach the district town and the wine-growing villages of the Mittelahr.
If you’d like to travel directly from Bonn to the Middle Ahr, the quickest route is via the A565 motorway and then on via the B257 to Altenahr. The B257 also takes you past Ahrbrück and Adenau to the Nürburgring.
The best way to reach Blankenheim and the Upper Ahr is via the A1 motorway from the direction of Cologne/Aachen or via the B51 from the direction of Prüm in the Eifel.
