MÄNNER VON WELT
“The two thinnest books in the
world are: an English cookery book and the collection *1000 Years of German
Humour*.” (Groucho Marx)
Poets and thinkers are few and far between
in Germany at the moment, which is why the satirists must step in! And so
René Sydow and Christian Miedreich throw themselves into everything German in their first joint
cabaret programme, exaggerating and caricaturing politics and private life,
embodying German archetypes and those who aspire to be one. In doing so,
they navigate their way through the country and its people with a mix of silliness and intelligence, delivering
spot-on and biting punchlines that strike at the heart of the German national character. Will we encounter
Goethe and Schiller, or Hinz and Kunz? Will the evening be revealing? Will it
be German – or even more German? Either way, it will be political cabaret with
German thoroughness, but without German chauvinism; after all, the two of them
are MEN OF THE WORLD.
René Sydow is a cabaret artist,
author, actor and director. The winner of numerous cabaret and
cabaret awards – most recently the 2024 Baden-Württemberg Cabaret Award (Grand Prize)
for his solo programme “In ganzen Sätzen” – is regarded as the most eloquent and
important representative of the next generation of political cabaret, following in the footsteps of Arnulf Rating, Wilfried Schmickler and Matthias
Deutschmann.
Like
René Sydow, Christian Miedreich was born in Radolfzell on Lake Constance. He gained his first professional and
stage experience in the independent theatre scene whilst
training as an actor in Freiburg, as well as a member of the cabaret group
BÖS-ARTIG, led by the cabaret artist Ralf Hackler.
In 2004, he appeared in front of the
camera, and in 2006 this was followed, amongst other things, by a role in the feature film “Lamento”, directed
by René Sydow, which was also screened
at the Newport International Film Festival. In 2010, he secured his first permanent position in the ensemble at Theater Trier,
taking on roles in both drama and musical theatre. Thanks to his
versatility and wide range of roles, he received a
nomination for the “Trierer Theatermaske” audience award in 2015.
For the past 10 years, Christian
Miedreich has been working as a freelance actor, for example for the Burgfestspiele Bad
Vilbel, the Grenzlandtheater Aachen, and as a regular guest at the Komödie
Düsseldorf. He is currently touring in the hit production “Achtsam Morden” by Studio
Landgraf, with which he regularly appears at German-speaking guest theatres
and which has already been awarded the INTHEGA Prize “Die Neuberin” (1st
prize). Alongside his theatre work, Christian
Miedreich is also active as a narrator for audiobooks and radio plays and currently lives
in Krefeld.
