"Ich geh schon mal nach hinten los“ – Kabarett

Whilst the world is spinning faster to the right than the yoghurt culture in Paleo muesli, and the news landscape is proving more changeable than the departure track of an ICE train as winter sets in, for Mia Pittroff, much remains the same for now: she is still her parents’ daughter, her children’s mother, a native of Franconia and a devoted amateur Berliner. Extremes are still too extreme for her; instead, she celebrates mediocrity:

Children? Gladly, but not too pretty.

Electric car? But please, washed every Saturday in the driveway.

And her dream man should be going a bit bald.

She still firmly believes in democracy, but not on a family holiday on Rügen.

Mia Pittroff Her humour is quick-witted, but spoken at a leisurely pace.

Too silly for cabaret, too subtle for comedy. Too ‘woke’ for the provinces and too provincial for the capital. She uses gender-neutral language, but in dialect. She does get going sometimes. Just… backwards!

Then again, perhaps ‘backwards’ is the new ‘forwards’? ‘Off we go’ the new ‘stuck fast’? Cabaret the new comedy? Is cabaret even the right form of protest anymore, or do we need other forms of civil resistance? And is this obsession with correcting and knowing better only this bad in Germany? Isn’t perfection actually terrible and terribly dangerous?

One thing is as certain as the moth in Paleo muesli: spending an evening heading backwards with Mia Pittroff is definitely worth it!
